Our project has commenced!. Our goal with this important task is to support the important initiative of the Colombian National Government on the protection of the marine environment. We have undertaken the development of this project involving a Colombian regional program for the recovery of coral reefs. We spent a whole week building our first nurseries in the Rosary Islands.

Mr Rafa Vieira and Mr Jaime Rojas from the Instituto Ceiner joined  Mr Mauricio Duque and his wife Monica from Fundacion Corales Vivos and Mr Ken Nedymier and his wife Denise from the american organization the Coral Restoration Foundation.  The original group was later joined by members of the different caribean regions of the Colombian Natural National Parks and a few volunteers, who assisted different conferences dictated by Mr Ken Nedymier.  We collected species from different sites in order to have a healthy nursery full of different genotypes of Acropolis palmatta and Acropolis Cervicornis. We tagged each one of the fragments and we set them up in our special nurseries  .

La operación ha comenzado!  Nuestra misión con tan importante tarea es apoyar la gran iniciativa del Gobierno Nacional Colombiano en la protección del medio ambiente marino. Hemos asumido el desarrollo de un gran  proyecto que comprende un programa regional del Caribe en la recuperación de arrecifes coralinos Colombianos. Ya dimos comienzo a la construcción de los primeros viveros submarinos de corales en las Islas del Rosario, Cartagena, Colombia.

Participaron los señores, Rafael Vieira y Jaime Rojas, del Instituto Ceiner; Los representantes de la Fundación Corales Vivos, el Sr  Mauricio Duque y Monica Herrera, y, el Sr Ken Nedimyer y su señora Denise de la fundación Norteamericana The Coral Restoration Foundation.  A este grupo original se le sumaron diferentes  delegados  de Parques Naturales Nacionales de Colombia diferentes voluntarios quienes atendieron conferencias dictadas por el Sr Nedimyer y fueron participes de prácticas locativas donde se demostraron técnicas de construcción y montaje.  Los primeros viveros quedaron organizados con diferentes genotipos de  especies de Acrópolis Palmatta y Acrópolis Cervicornis para así garantizar sanidad y éxito en la reproducción.
